Contract Ice Credits

We want to take a minute to reiterate a topic from the banquet how contract ice works and what are the steps to request a session credit.  It appears many of you did not understand or were not at the banquet for the explanation.  We went to contract ice for several reasons. One of the main reasons is so that we could have better insight into ice usage to make good ice purchase decisions for the club.  This is why we offer a discounted rate from the walk on rate to the members who purchase ice prior to the 25th of the previous month.  These purchases are like purchasing a movie ticket.  They are non refundable and non transferable.   The only exception to this is if the skater is injured and unable to skate. If that is the case in order to be considered for a credit you will need to go to www.skatekalamazoo.org and under the member section there is a link to a form to request an ice credit.  This form requires a doctor’s note to complete.  What this means…without a Doctor’s note there is no reason to request a credit as it will not be approved. In the case of a doctor’s note once the form is complete please allow 5-7 business days for the credit to be placed in your account (we are all volunteers with full time jobs).  No requests will be considered via email, text, etc. the form is the only method for requests starting 6/1/23.  If you are uncomfortable committing to the purchases in advance walk on ice is available for purchase based on open slots but please remember you must have proof of purchase for the ice monitor for any walk on ice purchased after the 25th of the previous month.  There are no exceptions to this rule and this will be solely the skater’s responsibility to show proof or the ice monitor will turn them away without a credit.  Contract ice is something used by the majority of clubs in the Country.   GKSA will see many benefits from this change.    If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask and we hope this will clear up any confusion regarding credits for contract ice.

Any questions pertaining to either of these topics should be directed to iceadmin@skatekalamazoo.org

New Update

The GKSA Board has decided that effective 2/1/24 all ice sessions with less that 8 skaters signed up on the first day of the month will be at risk of cancellation. If you are planning to skate on especially the leveled ice (High and Low) or the morning sessions sign up prior to the 1st day of the month to avoid us having to cancel that session.  8 people is the tolerance the board feels is sustainable to keep the ice loss within reason.  Thank you for your consideration when making ice purchases.
